Because a donor advised fund sponsor (The Signatry) has specific requirements and guidelines in the Internal Revenue Code, there are some differences between an individual investor and a DAF sponsor entity investor.
Our team performs a thorough review of each investment to mitigate tax and liability risk, not only for the donor advised fund you advise, but also for the investment’s potential effects on all other DAFs sponsored by The Signatry.
Please be aware that this review typically takes 2-3 weeks but can take longer if we identify risk factors and/or complexities requiring additional due diligence.
The Signatry charges fees related to alternative investments and may require liquidity in the donor advised fund for factors including granting history and intentions.
We’ll start the due diligence with a document request to the investment company, followed by a review by our transactions attorney. Feel free to reach out with any questions we can answer along the way!
Note: Should you decide at a future date to make a recommendation to close the donor advised fund at The Signatry that holds this investment, The Signatry’s policy is to liquidate the holding and grant the resulting cash to the identified recipient. The Signatry’s policy is not to grant investments in kind.
